We contort ourselves daily to meet sales targets, deadlines and punctuality KPIs.

All arbitrarily decided and set in stone. All considered the foundation of that essential ingredient for business – productivity.

KPIs are a measurement for how an employee performs and an expectation on what that employee will do to contribute to a business’s success.

These benchmarks are a feature of most service agreements. But what happens when a KPI becomes inconvenient?

In Melbourne, train operator Metro has shown us how KPIs can really help a business. After failing to meet their State Government punctuality targets month after month, they lowered them.

Now they brag about their performance.
